You definitely want to check out this shoe if you are wanting to ensure that you have one of the top shoes for running on any type of terrain. The first time that I saw it, I was really impressed with how it looks. It comes in many different styles that you can choose from. The shoes feature a simple, classy design that has bright overlays to help make them safe to wear at night to help you stay visible.

From the moment I first started to wear them, I could immediately start to feel their comfort. The shoes didn’t have a lot of cushioning to make them extra soft. However, I knew they would not break down or make feel uncomfortable while I was running. When I first started running, I had good support and didn’t have to worry about feeling pain while I was running or after I was done. Since I started to wear these shoes I haven’t had any more issues with my feet and I definitely recommend these shoes to people who have flat feet.

Pros

This classic shoe is now more than 30 years old. For quite some time it has been the gold standard when it comes to support shoes. The best thing of all is it is one of the few running shoes that is made in the United States still.

Featuring neutral colors and classic styling, the 990 looks as great when you are running in them as they do when you are simply wearing them around town. Great arch support is provided by the combination of stability and cushioning.

The classic shoes sport a breathable mesh and soft leather. It is laid out in a certain pattern that allows good breathability for running in these shoes.

It has a soft sold but good arch support and it works very well for both severe and mild overpronators. Durability is ensured by the blown rubber, which makes it a long lasting shoe. For both walkers and runners, it is an outstanding option.

Pros
  • Maybe reimbursable from Medicare

This is an outstanding shoe model from Brooks.

The Brooks brand is renowned for its comfort and durability, and both of those features are prominent in this model. It features a manmade mesh upper which looks great and keeps your feet breathing very well. The rubber sole offers great cushioning and support. It also distributes weight very well, even for people who have flat feet.

The shoe has better cushioning and a streamlined look, although there isn’t too much that can sabotage its balance while you are running. The style is made for both workouts and running.

Running is really a breeze in these shoes – quite literally! The shoes have outstanding ventilation to keep your feet free of discomfort and sweat while you are running. Overall, I definitely recommend this shoe to anyone who wants to keep their feet light and cool while they are running.

Pros
  • Very comfortable for people with flat feet
  • Are slip-resistant and has good traction
  • Supportive and stable sole
  • Lightweight

Merrell is well known for its hiking shoes. You can also use them for trail running, including this model. It is available in many different colors, which all of them being made with quality materials and a mesh upper that makes more durable than typical trail shoes usually are.

It wasn’t recommended for me to walk or run on trails, but the shoes really helped my feet. Before, when I struggled to go on treks or up mountains, I now feel comfort and experience minimal pain thanks to these shoes.

They are also very versatile. I use them for running at the gym and for weight training as well as for trail running so they are definitely worth the price. For Merrell’s, I am definitely impressed and will be using them on my future workouts and runs.

When it comes to shoes with great stability, these definitely are at the top of the list.

Many shoes have been launched by ASICS over the past 25 years, but this is definitely one of the best to date. This brand is committed to coming up with new features and their shoes always have excellent stability. This shoe comes in fabulous colors that are sure to please individuals who are looking for good looks and style in their footwear. These shoes are very reliable and one of the best running shoes for people with flat feet.

One of the best features of these shoes is that is very capable of withstanding long runs due to its great combination of both old and new technologies along with an improved version of this shoe series that has been out for many seasons. In terms of its running capability, reliability, and quality, its stability is unbeatable and very smooth.

It provides a much-needed bounce and push that makes it easier for individuals with flat feet to avoid injuries and run comfortably. It is definitely great for runners who are aiming to run longer distances like for marathons or who want to buy a dependable pair of shoes for demanding training.

The upper on this shoe is very impressive and is not too tight and not too loose for your feet. It fits very well and helps to keep your feet in place for longer. The Jacquard mesh upper has been used by Brooks which keeps your feet stable and doesn’t make them loose or saggy. Many shoes are lacking in the necessary durability that runners need. This is a highly durable shoe and won’t break down even when you run for many miles.

Cons
  • Not many people like the new color choices
  • The high price might put-off some runner
  • The sole unit is a bit on the bulky side

ASICS is a huge favorite among users due to its better models and the continuous improvements that are made. This company is one of the best makers of running shoes that are specifically for flat feet. All of the models are of the highest quality, including the GT-2000 5.

This model is known for being amazing due to its vertical flex, strong support, and a flexible groove that makes it really comfortable for individuals who have flat feet. It features cushioning that protects the feet from injury and shock.

The model has been made specifically for individuals dealing with overpronation. While running, it protects flat feet. Usually, this problem occurs whenever the weight of your body shifts to the edges of your feet instead of the balls of your feet, and that results in low arches and flat feet.

These shoes are made using technology that helps to increase the overall performance of the shoe and makes it very stable and durable.

ASICS shoes are known for their cushioning and comfort. They have a 10mm heel drop which is also very supportive for flat feet. The outsole is made out of AHAR rubber which takes the durability of the shoe to an entirely new level as well as making it feel good and very comfortable. The forefoot cushioning is made out of DURA sponge.

Pros
  • Variety of colors
  • 10mm heel gradient for added durability
  • DURA sponge outsole for increased comfort
Cons
  • Somewhat expensive

  • Predecessor: Addiction 12.
  • Support Type: Overpronation/Stability.
  • Cushioning: Maximum cushioning.

Runners who are looking for maximum cushioning and support should consider the Brooks Addiction. The running shoe has been made for runners who have severely flat feet and it offers a ton of arch support.

The shoe’s mesh upper provides ventilation but also a secure fit. The generous toe box has some give to provide plenty of wiggle room for the toes. There is also plenty of room in the uppers. So if you happen to wear an orthotic, then the Addiction fits quite well with them due to the extra room.

Plenty of cushioning is provided by the sole, and the shoe has a built-in medial post to provide excellent arch support. This shoe has so much support that it is only recommended for people with very flat feet or severe overpronators. You should check out a different shoe if you have low arches.

The Addiction is fairly heavy and stiff. That is how they are able to provide such outstanding support but also why they are not well suited for runners who have mildly flat arches.

Pros
  • A comfortable and cushioned shoe
  • Very supportive with arch support
Cons
  • Sizing runs small
  • The heel does not ride up as high as some older models for a less supportive feeling

10. Mizuno Wave Inspire 13

  • U4icX heel wedge for more cushioning at landing
  • Top midsole incorporates new U4ic compound for a more responsive and...
  • Improved air mesh increases breathability and flexibility
  • Softer collar provides snug, comfortable heel fit without irritation

Not a lot of people are familiar with the Mizuno name. However, if you start to research shoes you will hear it mentioned time and time again.

This model is available for both women and men and comes in a huge selection of colorways. This is a midweight running shoe well-suited for long-distance running. However, it performs well on shorter runs also.

These shoes offer plenty of extra arch support. However, preventing overpronation is where their real value lies, due to a firm yet lightweight midsole. The shoe also features odor and moisture control systems and the heel has extra cushioning to help prevent blistering and chafing.

Pros
  • Outstanding for road running
  • Comfortable for wearing for long periods of time
  • Good odor and moisture control
  • An attractive shoe for both women and men
  • Good arch support
  • An excellent option for serious overpronators
Cons
  • A bit expensive

What Is The Definition Of Flat Feet?

Flat feet is a condition where the postural arches of the underfoot have “collapsed”. As a result of the collapse, the individual does not have a standard arch along their foot when standing. People experiencing flat feet will notice that their full foot surface is in contact with the ground when standing or running.

The condition is often a result of a person’s body not being able to develop the necessary foot arches, or when the foot muscles are not strong enough to maintain the arches. This condition makes it difficult for a person to walk using traditional shoes because of pronation.

How Can I Determine If I Have Flat Feet Or Not?

It is easy to determine if you suffer from flat-footedness or not by using the following three steps:

  • Wet The Feet
  • Stand on a flat surface, such as a concrete walkway, so that the footprint will be visible.
  • Step back and look at the footprint. If you can view the entire imprint of the foot bottom on the surface, then it is likely that you suffer from a case of flat feet.

Many children appear to have a condition known as flexible flat feet. When a child stands, their feet will appear to be flat; however, when they rise to their toes, the arch becomes pronounced. In many cases, the child will start to develop foot arches when they grow to adulthood.

Why Do Runners With Flat Feet Need A Specific Type Of Running Shoe?

The simplest, cheapest and most efficient method of treating flat feet is to wear the correct footwear. This is one of the most significant steps (pun not intended) for people with fallen arches). However, the question remains as to why runners with flat feet require this type of footwear? Below is some of the information professionals found in their studies.

#1: Stabilizing The Heel

When an individual experiences flat foot or fallen arches, it is necessary for him or her to avoid rolling in the heel area during running. This means that the heel of the shoe needs to be stiff, firm and close to the heel edges.

#2: Improved Arch Support

Arch support is essential for individuals with flat feet, especially if they engage in frequent exercise regimes. Needless to say, the arch support offered by these specific running shoes is a significant benefit for many of these exercisers.

While the athletes with flat feet continue to reap benefits from arch stability available in tailored running shoes for people with fallen arches, individuals living with higher arches can also benefit from the correct running shoe support.

#3: Correct Foot Cushioning Along The Midsole

Medical professionals have found that the region between the ball of the foot and the heel, also known as the midsole, requires cushioning if it is to offer important benefits for people with flat feet. Correct cushioning offered by footwear can reduce any stress placed on the toes, heels and ankles during long walks or runs. As a consequence, the activity becomes more comfortable and secure. Furthermore, the cushioning can alleviate or prevent any back, knee and hip pain as it improves the movement of the body.

#4: Foot Motion Control

People with flat feet, especially those with over pronation, require this type of shoe to assist with foot motion control. The majority of running shoes for flat feet are designed using a hard-material bump along the arc area to lock the foot in the correct position, as well as providing additional foot motion support. The motion control function of the running shoes ensures that the person takes a correct stride with the foot landing on the ground in a correct position.

#5: Assisting With Injury Prevention

In most cases, running shoes for flat feet can assist in prevention of bodily injuries. According to the American College of Sports Medicine, midsole cushioning and arc support can mitigate overuse damage including stress fractures, joint paint and tendonitis. Practical running shoes reduces the chance of scrapes and cuts associated with running barefoot.

A suitable pair of running shoes can keep the feet in alignment, absorbs the shock of running, increases body balance, and promotes blood circulation and muscle movement.

Buyer’s Guide: Choosing The Ideal Running Shoes For Those With Flat Feet.

Running shoes can only be of great benefit to you if you have the right ones. Finding the best running shoes is not an easy task since they are available in different sizes. Moreover, it is even more difficult for people with flat feet to find the best running shoes since such feet require special design and materials.

If you have flat feet, here are a few tips and a number of factors that you need to consider when shopping for running shoes.

Consider Where You Will Be Running

Are you aware of the fact that there are certain brands that manufacture shoes that are specialized in various trails? For example, you can buy shoes that are specifically designed for rough terrains or hiking, for exercising on a treadmill, for trails and roads. Therefore, it is important that you consider where you will be running and the pair of shoes that matches that terrain. I recommend that you buy running shoes that can be used on treadmills and run with on the roads.

Different Types Of Running Shoes Best For Those With Flat Feet

When buying running shoes for flat feet, you should consider choosing between the two major types that are available. These are running shoes designed with stability control and running shoes designed with motion control.

Running Shoes That Have Stability Control

This type of running shoes are designed with a foam lining that is located at the feet step for better arch cushioning. This unique foam lining does not only provide support but comfort as well.

Running Shoes That Have Motion Control

These unique running shoes are known to do wonders for those who wear them. Running shoes that have motion control are designed with low arches. These unique shoes provide great support and comfort to the sides of your arches, which is why they are convenient for long distance runners.

Quality Standard Of The Shoes Material And Type

Buying running shoes for flat feet is very important that is why you should make sure that you get the best value for what you spend. When buying running shoes for flat feet, the first thing that you need to do is make sure that the shoe’s material is flexible and durable.

Also, you can look for running shoes that are designed with something known as EVA, which stands for ethyl vinyl acetate. This feature causes the shoes to have a cushy feeling when walking and running.

Stability

When buying running shoes for flat feet, make sure that they have the following features, motion control, stability, and good support. If you have flat feet, make sure that you emphasize more on stability when choosing your running shoes. You also need to acknowledge the fact that the term stability is considered to be a standard term that is used to categorize running shoes as a way of helping with overpronation. Therefore, it would be a disaster to compromise on stability when buying running shoes.

If you have flat feet, make sure that you consider the stability and comfort that your feet need. Running on normal shoes that do not offer the right support provides a bad running experience for people with flat feet. However, shoes that are specifically designed for people with flat feet offer great support, comfort, and stability when running. You no longer have to deal with running shoes that cause foot pain and other issues that are caused by fallen or low arches. All you have to do is look for running shoes that provide the right stability and support that your flat feet need.

Support

Motion control running shoes that possess good qualities also have similar enhancements such as, stability and extra upper construction so that the running shoes can provide extra support, and lock the runner’s feet in their rightful place. Moreover, the hard material also improves stability and motion control as well. It also helps to keep the arch in its rightful position. However, there are those who do not prefer to wear running shoes that are hard and have a high arch. If the shoes you choose to buy are not comfortable to walk with then they will not be comfortable to run on as well.

Running shoes that are specifically designed for people with flat feet provide better support for those who have fallen arches. If you do under pronate or fall in the category of neutral runners, then you will notice that this pair of shoes provide excess support even in places where you do not need too much support. That is why these shoes are recommended for people with flat feet since they can solve the support issues that most runners with flat feet face. They also correct the overpronation and as a result, prevents any kind of pain and improves your running skills.

Style

You also need to consider the style when shopping for running shoes. However, you need to understand that running shoes for people with flat feet have extra input and tough material which makes the shoe a bit heavier than normal running shoes. But, that does not mean that you cannot find lightweight running shoes for your flat feet.

Comfort And Air Circulation

Apart from proper cushioning and support, comfort is another key factor that you need to emphasize on as well. That is why it is advisable that you settle for running shoes made of mesh materials. That is because such shoes are not heavy and can help you improve your running skills. Besides being lightweight, they also have better air circulation which helps to keep your feet cool when running.

Great Motion

You also have to focus on the motion of the shoe. Shoes with good motion are easy to walk and run with. Moreover, the motion should be supportive enough so that it does not cause falls or twists when running. It should also be able to reduce stress on your feet’s week areas as well as roll and flex in the direction your foot moves.

Not Slippery And Waterproof

It is also important that you look for running shoes that have slip-resistant soles and waterproof uppers. Such shoes help keep your feet dry at all times, even when the weather condition is not favorable. They also help prevent sicknesses that are triggered by having wet feet.

Durability

What usually determines the durability of running shoes is the materials used to design the shoe and the type of rubber soles that it has. Most manufacturers use a combination of strong materials such as leather and mesh to design the upper of this unique running shoes. The use of mesh and strong materials does not only make the shoe durable but comfortable as well because of better air circulation.

Most running shoes that are lightweight are designed with an amazing sole which is called Eva foam. This makes the shoe weigh less even though some foams are bigger than others. One thing you can be sure of is that the sole is very strong and durable. Running shoes can be worn on a daily basis and you do not necessarily have to walk or run on soft terrain. That is why it is important that you consider the shoe material as well as how long they can serve you.

Traction

The type of running shoes you choose for your flat feet should be able to provide great traction so that they do not affect your running technique.

Affordable

Budgeting and pricing play a major role when it comes to making decisions about buying almost anything. If you want better or advanced features, then you must be willing to pay more. But, what matters most is to find the best running shoes that are within your budget. However, you also need to acknowledge the fact that running shoes designed for people with flat feet can be quite expensive, which is why it is important that you invest in shoes that are worth what you pay for.

Tips For Running With Flat Feet

If you love running, you need to know how to do so if you have flat feet and how to take good care of your shoes. Here are some helpful tips to help you run safely with flat feet.

  • Right before and after your run, you should exercise to rebuild your arches. You can do at least 10 reps of curls. Make sure you stretch your feet accordingly to avoid any injuries or tension.
  • Make sure you run on a leveled ground to prevent overpronating. That’s because it will put a lot of pressure on your feet when they twist inwards. Running on flat terrains is much better especially if you are a first-time runner. You can run or walk up hill when you have the experience. If possible, start running on a treadmill to avoid aching.
  • Maintain a good posture as you run that way you can distribute your weight equally from top to bottom.
  • Use strengthening exercises to boost your strength and stamina. It’s also a good way to prevent pain in your feet. You should consider bodyweight exercises such as calf raises, besides running, to prevent any injuries to your heels.
  • Take good care of your shoes by washing them at least once every week. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to the letter and leave the shoes to dry completely. Make sure you store them in a cool area where they can’t get mold.
