Camping is one of the best ways to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, reconnect with nature and reboot mentally. However, in order for your vacation to go comfortably and safely, it’s important to pack everything you need in advance. An unprepared tourist can easily spoil the experience by forgetting, for example, a sleeping bag or a flashlight. Below – a complete and checked list of things that will be needed for camping in nature.
The first thing any camping starts with is accommodation. The most basic option is a tent. It should be of high quality, with a waterproof tent, stable arcs and mosquito net. Be sure to take pegs and ropes to secure the tent well – especially if you will be camping in a windy place. Add a mat or air mattress to the tent, as well as a seasonally appropriate sleeping bag. Even in the summer, nights can be chilly, especially in the mountains or by the ocean.
The next important block is food. In camping there is rarely a kitchen, so a tourist burner or a compact gas stove is a must. It is better to take a reserve of fuel to it. You will also need utensils – a wok, a mug, a plate, a spoon, as well as a kitchen knife, a cutting board, a bottle opener. Don’t forget a sponge, detergent and garbage bags – cleanliness in nature is just as important as in the city.
As for clothing, there is a universal rule: it is better to take a little more than to regret. Comfortable pants, T-shirts, thermal underwear (if it is cold), windbreaker, hat and gloves are necessary. A stock of socks is a mast-head. Footwear is an especially important item. You need sturdy trekking boots for the trails, sneakers or sandals for the camp. Don’t forget a swimsuit, if swimming is anticipated, and a sun hat.
Among the little things that often turn out to be lifesaving, it is worth mentioning a head flashlight (and spare batteries), a multitool knife, tape (in case of tent damage), a first aid kit, sunscreen and insect repellent. It is also useful to take a rope – it can be used for drying clothes, stretching the shelter or even in an emergency.
For hygiene you will need wet wipes, paper towels, toothbrush and toothpaste, soap (preferably biodegradable), and paper and hand sanitizer. Some campsites are equipped with showers, but if you are going to wild places – all hygienic will have to organize themselves.
Don’t forget about electronics: a phone with offline maps, a powerbank, maybe a camera. And, of course, you should take a map and compass with you – technology sometimes fails, and no one has canceled the classical methods of orienteering.
Additionally, you can bring a camping chair, table, thermos or water filter, board games, books, music speaker (if it does not disturb the peace of other tourists).
When going camping, remember: your goal is not only comfort, but also respect for the surrounding nature. Don’t leave trash, don’t break branches, don’t scare animals. A well-packed backpack and the right attitude will make your camping trip a truly unforgettable adventure.
